Flashback: June 14, 2015

I've decided to do a "This Day in History" series covering the biggest moments in league history. Unfortunately, I didn't think of this idea until today, so I missed the opportunity to cover the championship game that occurred on June 14, 2015. So, I decided to add it anyway and just post this today instead.

Season 6 was the beginning of a new era for the league, signaling the end of the 'keeper league' and the first season to use separate divisions. The draft actually took place during Season 5 because of the complete lack of an offseason during that time. During that draft, Ben drafted the Money in the Bank winner from the previous year, Seth Rollins...a wrestler that had been on Terry's team for Seasons 2,3,4, and 5. For Terry, Rollins played a major role in winning his first championship back in Season 2.

Seth Rollins ended up cashing in his contract to win the WWE championship during the Season 5 championship game at Wrestlemania 31. Season 6 began the next night with Monday Night Raw.

Season 6 used weekly matchups instead of an all-play system to determine win-loss records. For the Raw division, Ben took first place with a 6-4-1 record. For Smackdown, Caleb took first place with a 7-4 record. Terry, with a 5-6 record, managed to take second place and secure a spot in the divisional championship game against Caleb.

In week 10, Terry defeated Carl 43-30 while Caleb had a bye week. Caleb's last regular weekly game was a loss to Terry in week 9. With all the momentum, Terry cruised to a 29-6 victory over Caleb. That secured his spot in the Season 6 championship game.

The surprise addition of the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view gave Austin the boost he needed to take second place in the division, setting up a rematch with Ben. They faced off in week 10 with Austin taking a dominating 47-26 win. However, Ben won where it really mattered, winning 29-22 in the divisional championship and advancing to face Terry for the Season 6 championship.

Ben vs Terry. A battle of the first two champions in the league. Money in the Bank 2015. One of them would become the second person to ever win two championships.

Both players had Darren Young on their teams, cancelling each other out. Ryback lost by disqualification which didn't help Ben out. Roman Reigns failed to win Money in the bank as did Kofi Kingston, leaving Terry with 50 points for the night.

In the main event, Seth Rollins battled Dean Ambrose for the WWE championship. Rollins won, pushing Ben's point total up to 72 and securing him the win. With this win, Ben became the second ever two-time champion thanks to the wrestler that had been on his opponent's team for the previous 4 seasons.

The winner would secure the title 'greatest of all time' and on June 14, 2015, that was Ben.
