As I said in the post about the Season Six Championship, I've decided to write a "This Day In History" series covering the biggest moments in the history of Azalea City Fantasy Wrestling. This is the first actual post in the series (since I posted the last one late) and it will cover one of the most entertaining championship games... Season Two
Season Two was originally labeled as Season Three with "Season One" being the mini season that happened in October of 2013. The decision was eventually made to no longer count the mini season since it did not include weekly matchups, lasted less than four weeks, had only four players, and did not include a championship game. Following Ben's unlikely win in the actual Season One, everyone wanted to be able to claim the second championship in the league's history. So, after a two month break, ACFW returned for another season.
Season Two counted trademark moves instead of just finishers and there was no limit on these moves, which allowed wrestlers like Cesaro to have multiple trademark moves and score many points in simple matches.
NXT played a role in the first five weeks as a trial run. Originally intended to be a part of it for the entire season, the decision was made to cut it because the results were online months in advance. This is just one of many reasons why this season was notable in the history books.
Of course, the most notable thing about the season was the purchase of the championship belt. That title would eventually go on to be used for eight seasons and be held by six different players. But, only one could be the first to hold that title.
Austin finished the season 8-4 after a dominating performance. Terry finished 7-5. This set up Austin vs Brandon and Terry vs Jeff for the playoffs.
Austin barely won his match 33-32 while Terry barely won as well in the higher scoring game 50-47. They were the closest playoff games ever played and set the stage for the championship game to follow.
Terry vs Austin... who would be the first to hold the championship title?
With Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and John Cena, Terry seemed unbeatable. But, with only seconds left in the show, Austin held a 0.5 point lead. Then, John Cena won the main event. That secured Terry the 62-44.5 victory and the championship. And prevented Austin from winning a championship until Season Eight.
Only one person can say they held the title first and four years ago today, that was Terry.
