Finally, we have a new #1 ranked team. Let's ignore the fact that it's the same team that pretty much always ends up as the #1 team and instead focus on what's really important... I can finally make fun of the previous #1 team. As always, people will be buried. Continue reading at your own risk.
Before I get into the more entertaining part of this week's edition of The Golden Shovel, let's talk prizes. Here are the current total points scored by team captains so far:
- Jacob: 76.5
- Madelyn: 67.5
- Chris: 60
- Ben: 58.5
- Tess: 42
- Austin: 28.5
- Carl: 18
- Jeff: 3
The team with the most (currently Jacob) after Tuesday wins the Daniel Bryan towel and the team with the least (currently Jeff) wins the John Cena towel. Teams that have not paid their entry fee are not eligible to receive their prize. If one of those teams wins it, it will instead go to the next eligible team.
One last important thing to say... As a league, we have reached a total of 1,184 points this season. Whoever scores the 2,000th point wins a prize.
Now, on to the recap of last week. Carl's strategy to lose every week then win Season 15 seems to be going exactly as planned. His average points per week are trending downward and seem to have no limit as to how low they'll go. With Mandy Rose as captain and an injured Rey Mysterio starting, he could be on his way to a historic season.
Jeff certainly seems to have a prize ready for the taking with his captain scoring another 1.5 points this week, his highest so far. Austin, although moving up, is still far away from the top three and only catching a few points a week probably won't get him there. Chris is still fighting to take his rightful spot at #2. Of course, not #1 because that's Ben's spot.
Madelyn is using R-Truth as her captain and it is working quite well. Unfortunately, the rest of her team doesn't quite carry their weight, leaving her trapped in the #4 spot. Jacob successfully continued to use the Kofi Kingston effect to his advantage. At this point, his name in the standings might as well be Kofi Kingston. If you only included his points from Kofi, he wouldn't be in last place.
Finally, the new player has fallen from the top. 186 points just isn't good enough to beat Ben. Tess now sits in second place, leaving me one more victim for The Golden Shovel each week. And you know what they say... second place is the first loser.
"Even if I don't win, at least I know I'm the King of Quotes."
-Chris
"If Ben's in first, we gotta throw the whole league in the trash."
-Tess
"Remember that time Kalisto AND Nikki Cross wrestled every week and Rey Mysterio was injured and didn't show up for weeks? Carl doesn't remember..."
-Ben
Stomping Grounds is next Sunday and it will almost certainly be an extremely boring show with very low attendance. Baron Corbin in the main event? Really?
Despite that, it'll be fun to see who scores the most points at a show that's almost entirely predictable. Make sure to stop by next week where we will again make fun of everyone except the first place team. Until then, good luck to all!
