The Golden Shovel

Azalea City Fantasy Wrestling just wouldn’t be the same without The Golden Shovel and yes, we know it.

Week three of season 16 has come and gone, and with it, a first victory. Phillip’s team got their first win, and with it, a taste of what could be. It wasn’t a struggle either, with the final score being 26.5 to Jeff’s 9. NXT’s Halloween Havoc did good by Phillip, with his NXT-heavy team finally paying off.

Is this the turning point for him?

Foundation versus Foundation with Jacob’s team captain Keith Lee taking the victory from Ben. This is now the third victory in a row that’s been taken from him, and to add insult to the injury, Jacob almost doubled his opponent’s points, ending with 33.5 to Ben’s 17.

Maybe you shouldn’t have told everyone how you felt about sharing victory points, Ben…

A rather dull match-up for Terry and ever absent Brandon, with everything playing out exactly as expected. The Tenacious One had the Phenomenal One set as captain, they ran away with the points for a solid 29.5 - 16.5 victory, and, as has become expected, nothing happened on Brandon’s end.

Just like the simulations. At least Brandon doesn’t have a great team lineup for weekly matches.

Game of the week was actually a stressful nailbiter this time, with #1 Madelyn facing off against #2 Austin. Both undefeated. Both top ranked since week one.

But someone had to lose.

It all came down to one single mistake. Something as simple as choosing the wrong team captain.

Austin’s team was led by Candice LaRae, who lost her match. In doing so, she cost her entire team the honor of being ranked #1. Shame on you, Candice LaRae. Shame on you.

Captain for the winning team, Johnny Gargano, showed his wife how it’s done by actually defeating his opponents. On screen and off. But even with the wrong captain, Austin’s team almost won, but Madelyn took the cake and all the points too, scoring 38.5 to Austin’s 36.5.

At least it was entertaining to watch for those of us not stressed out about winning.

Quotes of the Week!

Sponsored by The Golden Shovel

“Maybe Sasha has Covid and won’t show up.” ~Ben

Our interview for this week was with Austin... of the Fetner Foundation?

The Golden Shovel: “So that last match-up...ouch. Anything you want to say about that?”

Austin: “No. Candice LeRae might. I hear she’s a free agent now if anyone is looking for a new wrestler to add to their team.”

GS: “What cost you the win was the wrong team captain. How do you plan to avoid another mistake like that?”

Austin: “Well, we’re aiming for zero points. I imagine we’ll end up somewhere north of that this week.”

GS: “And most importantly, do you love the Auwawa Boweioo—the Auwaa Boweeiuwaeyo?”

Austin: “I’m a natchawal taqworzee.”

After that interview, we here at The Golden Shovel had a couple unanswered questions. If he didn’t want to say anything, why did he say something? How is aiming for zero points going to solve the issue of picking the wrong captain in future, and how does it make any competitive sense?

And what did he even say to that last question?
