Okay... so there's a lot to talk about in this week's preview. But, first, let's take a moment and look ahead. There are 9 more weeks and 2 more pay per views. Teams ranked in the top 4 might not be there at the end and teams ranked near the bottom could win the championship. Anything can happen, so no one is necessarily out of it yet and won't be for a while.
Here are the current points for the predictions mini game:
1) Austin: 8
2) Ben: 7
3) Jeff: 5
4) Madelyn: 4
4) Terry: 4
4) Phillip: 4
Week 3 features some interesting matches between a lot of players who are looking to make a statement and fight their way back up the rankings. The teams that had a good pay per view are trying to maintain that momentum while the teams that had a bad pay per view are trying to regain their lost momentum. Let's have a look at the week 3 games...
In our first game this week, we have Terry taking on Brandon. Both of these teams are coming off big wins at last night's pay per view. For Brandon, his first overall draft pick Randy Orton secured the WWE Championship. As for Terry, well he just scored the biggest upset in league history. Our simulation gives Terry a 78% chance to win and has him as a 9-point favorite. He won both games where he was the underdog. Now, can he win as the favorite?
Next, we have Jacob vs Ben. Both teams had somewhat disappointing results in week 2 and very disappointing results at the PPV. Ben won 3 of a possible 4 victory points in the first two weeks but won 0 of a possible 4 at the PPV. Jacob's team has a lot of star power but hasn't been able to put up as many points as some would have expected it to. This is a Fetner Foundation vs Fetner Foundation game and the question is which team will manage to rebuild the momentum they may have lost last night. Our simulation gives Ben a 75% chance to win and has him as a 10-point favorite.
Phillip, the only team without any victory points yet, faces off against Jeff, a team that has scored 29+ points in both of the first two weeks. Despite having a lot of really good wrestlers on paper, Phillip's team has not yet been able to score a win. Could this be his opportunity to do just that? Our simulator gives him a 28% chance to win. That is double what the simulator gave him last week and he has some guaranteed matches at the NXT episode this week. But, Jeff seems like one of the best teams in the league and is a 6-point favorite to defeat Phillip.
Finally, we have a huge game of the week this week. It is #1 Madelyn vs #2 Austin. Both teams have been unstoppable so far and both teams have the maximum possible victory points of 8 each. And both teams have the talent to again put up huge numbers this week. Austin, for the third consecutive week, has a wrestler in a main championship match. Madelyn is looking even better now with Sasha Banks having won the Smackdown Women's Championship. But, someone has to lose.
The simulator gives Madelyn a 61% chance to win and has her as a 6-point favorite. It has the final score estimated to be (on average), 41-36 in her favor. If that happens, this would be a very closely contested game all the way to the end of Smackdown.
When asked about this match, Madelyn said, "Austin, what I'm about to do to you this week is nothing personal. It's just business."
Austin replied, "I was a 6-point underdog last week. I am this week too. Look what happened last week."
After this game, only one team will stand alone at the top of the rankings. Will it be Madelyn or will Austin win a third consecutive game of the week? Week 3 starts tonight!
