Last week, the #1 team played against the #2 team. This week, those same teams are still ranked the same. So, not a huge immediate impact but it might have a big effect on the season as a whole. Meanwhile, Jacob and Phillip seemingly turned their seasons around with definitive wins, Ben and Jeff suffered losses, and Terry won a big game. Now, every team is seemingly out to prove something this week.
Here are the current points for the predictions mini game:
1) Austin: 13
2) Phillip: 9
3) Ben: 8
4) Jeff: 6
5) Madelyn and Terry: 4
Now, let's have a look at week 4...
After disappointing losses last week, Ben and Jeff face off in a Foundation vs Corporation match to try to regain some of the momentum they've lost recently. Both are currently just outside the top 4 and with this week concluding the first third of the season, this would be a big opportunity for one of them to jump up in the rankings. Our simulator has Ben winning 66% of the time but when he does win, it is by larger margins. So, that is why there's a 9-point spread despite the low percentage. Which former champion will take this one?
Next, we have Phillip vs Jacob. Both of these teams are looking like the opposites of Jeff and Ben. Instead of starting strong and then having a bad week, these teams started slow and then had a great week 3. Phillip scored his first victory point and Jacob won as a 10-point underdog. But, only one of them will have the opportunity to make it two in a row. Simulations show Jacob winning 66% of the time but only as a 4-point favorite. And the majority of simulated games are relatively low scoring with both teams scoring under 30 in over 50% of them. So, expect a 27-24 type of game in this one.
Chris makes his debut this season, taking control of the 4th place team previously owned by Brandon. But, it will not be a warm welcome as he faces off against the undefeated #1 ranked Madelyn, his biggest rival from past seasons. And simulations show that he has next to no chance of winning. Madelyn has a massive 95% chance to win this game and is a record breaking 21-point favorite. And despite that, I'd bet the majority of people will still predict her to cover that spread. There'd be no better way to debut than with an upset this big, but can Chris do it with a team that hasn't yet scored more than 21 in a week?
Finally, for the 4th consecutive week, Austin is in the game of the week. This time, against #3 Terry. This marks the 3rd week in a row where Austin has played against a top 3 opponent. After his first loss of the season, and with Terry being on a winning streak, can Austin rebound with a victory? Or will he lose twice in a row? The Bayley vs Sasha Banks championship match on Smackdown is sure to be an important one to determine this outcome.
The simulator gives Austin an 86% chance to win and has him as a 7-point favorite. This is actually the first game he's been favored to win (week 1 didn't have matchup odds). Terry had a disappointing week 1 but has scored big numbers in week 2 and week 3. Austin has scored in the exact same range every week so far. If Terry has a big week, it's fair to assume he'd be in that same range. So, this is anyone's game to win.
Both of these teams are really good and both of these players have won multiple championships before, even playing against each other in two of those. It's usually interesting when these two play against each other. Who will win this? Week 4 starts tonight!
